Yesika Salgado, co-founder of the Latina empowering poetry collective Chingona Fire, is a Salvadorean-American spoken word poet. The self-proclaimed "Fly, Fat, Brown Girl" vibrantly illustrates her culture, family, and relationships with others and herself through her poetry. Her vulnerability is a form of bravery, drawing you with her words and overtaking your own emotional walls.

This Ted Talk, following her poem "On the Bad Days" shows her hard fought journey to self-love, and gives stirring guidance for anyone not yet there for whom the concept may seem daunting. She says, "Loving yourself is not a spell you pour over yourself [...] It is armor. We put it on piece by piece. Some days you could only get the sleeves on. Other days just one shoe. Some days you get all of the battle gear on and you go out into the world ready for war.”

Salgado is consistent with her empowering message across platform. Her instagram, where she often posts new poems, also invites her followers to celebrate themselves and their bodies on their own pages. She currently has two poetry books out: Corazon which examines all stages of love and heartbreak, and Tesoro, the story of the important women in her life.
