Sia is a renowned singer-songwriter and mental health activist. Born in Australia, she had moderate success as an indie singer before crossing over to the American mainstream through her smash hit "Titanium". Unhappy with the sudden surge in visibility, she began covering her face with her signature blonde wigs to preserve her anonymity and cope with her anxiety.

In a NYT article "Sia Furler, the Socially Phobic Pop Star" she stated, "I just wanted to have a private life. Once, as my friend was telling me they had cancer, someone came up and asked, in the middle of the conversation, if they could take a photograph with me. You get me? That's enough, right?".

However while she is private with her identity, she has been incredibly open with her battles with addiction and bipolar disorder through her interviews and music. In many of her songs she belts out declarations of her pain, struggles, and immense will to overcome them all.

From "Alive"

I have made every single mistake
That you could ever possibly make
I took and I took and I took what you gave
But you never noticed that I was in pain
I knew what I wanted; I went in and got it
Did all the things that you said that I wouldn't
I told you that I would never be forgotten
And all in spite of you
I'm still breathing, I'm still breathing
