Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dynamic Arts Educator who is passionate about making a difference in young lives through the arts. This position primarily supports our prevention programs, particularly the "Creativity in the Classroom and Beyond" program at Title I elementary schools. You will engage K-3 students in creative literacy-based programming, working closely with teachers, interns, and community members. This role also plays a key part in our community engagement efforts, helping to cultivate a vibrant creative hub through events and art making.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, facilitate, and deliver arts-integrated literacy sessions for K-3 students at Title I elementary schools.
- Coordinate and communicate regularly with classroom teachers to support curriculum integration and student needs.
- Train and support volunteers and interns on-site and virtually.
- Plan and facilitate creative community events, such as the Day of Creativity.
- Write stories and capture creative narratives from youth to highlight program impact.
- Create compelling digital content for social media and storytelling platforms.
- Maintain and transport program materials, ensuring organized and prepared sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with children (K-3) using creative or visual arts.
- Educational or professional background in child development, human development, education, social services, or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to social-emotional learning (SEL).
- Cultural competency and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Passion for strengths-based youth development and using creativity as a tool for empowerment.
- Bilingual skills are a plus (Spanish/English preferred).
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to various program sites across Los Angeles County and to our Valencia office.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and provide proof of auto insurance.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and transport supplies (clay, paints, digital equipment, etc.) using carts.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for events or program needs.
Additional Requirements (upon hire):
- Live Scan background check clearance.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
- First Aid/CPR certification (Red Cross or American Heart Association) may be required.
- Negative TB test clearance may be required.
