Artist Spotlight: Shawn Mendes

The 20-year-old Canadian singer burst on the music scene through his covers posted on social media platforms. He became one of only five artists to have debuted #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 when he released his first album "Handwritten" at age 16.

In the song "In My Blood", Shawn opens up about his struggle with anxiety in a very real and vulnerable way. Nominated for "Song of the Year" at last year's Grammy's, Mendes sings this song in conversation with himself as he fights through feelings of emptiness and desperation.

On the Dan Wooten podcast he elaborated saying, "The thing is with anxiety, and why it’s such a hard thing for people who don’t have it to understand, is that it is very random and it hits you at moments you don’t expect it. Sometimes it lasts two hours, sometimes it lasts a day and sometimes it lasts five minutes. The point of the song is that no matter how long that lasts, you can come out the other end stronger and you come out of the other end always."
